SPIRAL TO HELIX
2019
Lighting Design
Ceiling lamp
From spiral to helix and back again.
Made of a single board of wood cut with a laser cutter. Two spirals interspersed with a common center. One of the spirals stretches upwards and the other one downwards. This generates a double spiral, forming a 3D volume similar to an ellipsoid.
When placing a light bulb inside the two spirals, the lamp produces intense horizontal light and a shadow effect: a spiral shape on the ceiling and another on the floor.
Alternative version
Unfolding the spirals in the same direction and dropping the exterior circle. This design adopts a shape similar to a bell. Also creates a spiral shape on the ceiling.
